Concrete Retaining Walls in Kaysville

A retaining wall has one job, holding back a grade for years without leaning, cracking, or pushing out, and out here the frost and the clay soil make that harder than it looks. We build poured concrete retaining walls across Kaysville and Davis County to level a yard, hold a slope, or shore up a driveway or patio. We set a real footing below the frost line, reinforce the wall for the load behind it, and build in the drainage that keeps water from freezing and shoving the wall out. Tell us the grade you're working with and we'll walk it with you.

What's included

Retaining Walls, done the right way.

  • Poured concrete retaining walls to hold a slope, level a yard, or shore up a driveway or patio.
  • A footing set below the frost line and sized for the load the wall has to hold.
  • Rebar sized and tied so the wall handles the pressure of the soil behind it.
  • Drainage built in behind the wall, so water and frost don't build up and push it out.
  • A finished face, plain or textured, that ties into the rest of your concrete.

Why drainage and footings decide it

A retaining wall fails when water and frost get behind it. Our clay soil holds water, and when that water freezes it expands and pushes on the wall, and a wall without drainage or a proper footing is what leans, cracks, and blows out. So we build for it: a footing below the frost line so the base doesn't heave, rebar sized for the load, and drainage behind the wall, gravel and a drain line, so water has somewhere to go instead of freezing against the concrete. That's the difference between a wall that holds for decades and one you're rebuilding in a few years.

Common jobs

What people call us for

Most retaining wall calls land in one of these:

  • Holding back a slope so you can use more of the yard.
  • Leveling a sloped or terraced backyard.
  • Shoring up the edge of a driveway, patio, or parking area.
  • Replacing a leaning, cracked, or failing retaining wall.
  • A low wall that doubles as a border or a raised bed.

Good to know

Retaining Walls questions, answered.

How tall a wall can you build?
We build a range of heights. For lower walls it's straightforward. Taller walls carry a lot more load and sometimes need an engineered design, and we'll tell you when that's the case so it's built right and holds. Either way we'll walk your site and lay out the options.
Why do retaining walls fail around here?
Almost always it's water and frost behind the wall. Our clay soil holds water, it freezes and expands, and a wall without drainage or a proper footing gets pushed out. We build in the drainage and footing that stop that.
Do you build in drainage?
Always. Drainage behind the wall is not optional out here. We set gravel and a drain line so water has an escape instead of freezing against the concrete and shoving the wall. It's the single biggest reason a wall lasts.
Can you match the wall to my other concrete?
Yes. We finish the wall face plain or textured and can tie it in with your patio, driveway, or steps so it looks like it belongs, not like an afterthought.
